Jayabrata Sinha has spent almost all his student life in Guwahati – School, B.Sc.; LL.B, and presently practises as a lawyer at Gauhati High Court and other subordinate courts. He has been actively associated with community works from a very early age.

He is SBP's candidate for the 2021 Assam Assembly Elections for the seat of Gauhati East, Assam. This is the first time that he is contesting in an election.

Jayabrata believes it’s high time we build a nation where our citizens work, think, speak and live freely with least restrictions from the government. The government should perform only the core activities with complete professionalism. As the government tries to dictate terms and directly perform everything it miserably fails everywhere. Our police, courts, public infrastructure, which are the core responsibilities of the government, are all crumbling and deteriorating day by day.

Being a lawyer, Jayabrata witnesses every day the suffering of the people due to the government’s failure to perform its core activities. The ruling elite insist on following the worn out policies of yesteryears because of their short-sightedness and/or feudal attitude no matter how much we citizens toil.

Why SBP: The Tag line – “Sarkar  hamara naukar hain” appeals to Jayabrata as he believes that government is there to do the works of the citizen and not the other way around as is happening now. He believes in minimum governance.

It is quite obvious that no political party cares for the liberty and prosperity of Indians as much as SBP does. Instead of creating the environment where citizens have the liberty to do whatever they want without harming others, other parties try to create an authoritarian government. This stops people from realising their potential. The government must restrict itself only to its core activities. Had this policy been followed, the present scenario of India would have been quite opposite to the present scenario.

His Aspiration: As an elected Member of Legislative Assembly from Gauhati East constituency, Jayabrata will work for enabling world class environment friendly infrastructure, accountable administration and business friendly opportunities. He will work towards formation of proper independent Crime Branch of Guwahati Commissionerate and will work for complete bifurcation of civil justice and criminal justice, establishment of special courts to try serious and heinous crimes handled by the Crime Branch so that cases are heard expeditiously and efficiently. He will work relentlessly for online submissions of all applications to government offices including ejahars to the police to curb bribes.

He will work tirelessly towards recreating the water bodies around Guwahati which were a common feature of “yester years Guwahati” and responsible use of the vast natural water bodies and rivers in and around Guwahati. It is a matter of great shame that Guwahati does not have potable water supply system despite one of the largest rivers of the world – Brahmaputra – flowing through it. He will work with environmental and waste management experts to manage wastes, flood and water-logging. Unlike the current leaders he will work towards permanent solutions rather than stop gap fixes. He will ensure transparency and accountability of government representatives.

JAYABRATA’S PLAN OF ACTION IF ELECTED

Jayabrata is committed to work on the following aspect:

  1. Expeditious and efficient Judiciary.
  2. Advanced and up-to-date police reforms to be implemented without any delay.
  3. Formation/empowerment of the Crime Branch under Guwahati Commissionerate –
  1. FIRs to be registered by it.
  2. Special Courts to be established so that serious and heinous crimes – murder, torture, rape, kidnapping, missing people, crimes against children – may be heard by it expeditiously and efficiently.
  1. Development of the natural water bodies.
  2. Advanced and up-to-date education reforms.
  3. Co-ordination of higher education providers and employers through campus interview. Empowering entrepreneurs so that people can create businesses and employment opportunities.
  4. Advanced and scientific projects in the field of potable water and sewage disposal, water-logging, flood and water management
  5. Universal mediclaim policies
  6. Accountability and transparency of all government offices so that corruption in all forms are removed. This has also the potential of unlocking huge wealth creation, e.g. proper land records will boost businesses.
